Yes. If your photos are optimized in iCloud and only a low-resolution preview is stored on-device, Photo Transfer asks iOS for the full original and downloads it before sending. The transfer itself is still device-to-device — iCloud is only the source.

Yes, between phones. With the latest version of Photo Transfer on both phones, Live Photos you send to another iPhone or iPad arrive as Live Photos, and on Android they arrive as Motion Photos. Motion Photos from Android arrive on your iPhone as Live Photos. Web browsers, cloud services, and network drives receive the still photo.

Yes, with PRO. Photo Transfer connects to network drives over SMB (Windows, Mac, and NAS shared folders) or WebDAV (Nextcloud, NAS, and web servers). Enter your server's address and login once, then send photos to any folder, or browse the drive and download photos back to your iPhone or iPad. Files go directly between your device and your server.

You can choose. By default HEIC stays as HEIC — which modern versions of Windows, macOS, and Android all support. If the receiving device or app can't read HEIC, you can enable automatic HEIC-to-JPG conversion and Photo Transfer will convert each photo as it's sent.

No to all three. Photo Transfer runs its own local server on your iPhone or iPad and transfers photos directly over WiFi. There's no iTunes sync, no Lightning or USB-C cable required, and no Apple ID sign-in needed for the core transfer features. An Apple ID is only involved when you subscribe to PRO (through the App Store). If you prefer a cable, Photo Transfer for Windows can also connect to your iPhone over USB; this needs Apple's free Apple Devices app on the PC.

Yes, on iOS and iPadOS 26 or later. Start the transfer, then leave the app: it keeps going, iOS shows its progress with a Stop button, and a notification tells you how it went. On earlier versions, the transfer stops shortly after you leave the app, and Photo Transfer shows the result. New transfers can't start while the app is in the background, and closing it from the app switcher ends the transfer.

Yes. Files already on your computer, your NAS, your cloud folder, or your iPhone or iPad aren't copied again. When you receive photos on your iPhone or iPad, or send to a network drive, Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive, a file counts as already there when it has the same name and exactly the same size, and the transfer screen shows how many were skipped. On a computer, the Windows app checks the name, date, and size, and the Mac app checks the name and size. A different file with the same name is still saved, as a separate copy. Flickr uploads and web browser downloads aren't checked.

Yes. Apple ProRAW, DNG, and other RAW photo formats transfer at full bit depth with all embedded metadata. The same is true for ProRes video and other professional capture formats.
