Do I need a Google account to use Photo Transfer on Android?
No. Transfers happen directly between your devices over your local WiFi. The app does not require a Google account, and no photos are uploaded to Google, to us, or to any third party during a transfer.
Will it work on Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Pixel, and other brands?
Yes. Photo Transfer is a standard Android app and works on any device running Android 10 or newer, regardless of manufacturer. There are no special drivers or manufacturer-specific dependencies.
Can I save received photos to a microSD card?
Yes, if the card is your phone's main storage. Received photos and videos are saved to the main storage — photos in Pictures, videos in Movies — so they appear in your gallery right away, and on phones that use the microSD card as their main (adoptable) storage, that's the card. If the card is portable storage instead, Photo Transfer can't save to it directly; move the files there afterwards with your phone's Files app. Photos already on a microSD card show up in Photo Transfer, and you can send them like any other.
Does it work without an internet connection?
Yes. All you need is a local connection between the two devices — usually a shared WiFi network. If there's no WiFi network around, you can enable your phone's hotspot and connect the other device to it — transfers still run locally with no internet used. With the Windows app, you can also connect a USB cable and turn on USB tethering.
How is Photo Transfer different from sharing through Google Photos or Drive?
Google Photos and Google Drive upload your files to the cloud first. For local transfers, Photo Transfer sends photos directly between devices over WiFi at full quality, without a Google account. Cloud backup is a separate, optional feature.
Do Live Photos from an iPhone keep their motion on Android?
Yes. With the latest version of Photo Transfer on both phones, Live Photos sent from an iPhone arrive as Motion Photos, which Google Photos and most gallery apps can play. The photo part is saved as a JPG; to receive just the photo instead, turn off Convert Live Photos to Motion Photos in the app's settings. Motion Photos you send to an iPhone arrive there as Live Photos.
Can I back up Android photos to a NAS?
Yes, with PRO. Photo Transfer connects to network drives over SMB (Windows, Mac, and NAS shared folders) or WebDAV (Nextcloud, NAS, and web servers). Enter your server's address and login once, then send photos to any folder — from the app or the Share menu — or browse the drive and download photos back to your phone. Files go directly between your phone and your server.
